A busy road plagued with delays is to shut for long-awaited repair works.
The eastbound side of St Denys Road will close to motorists for three weeks.
Starting from October 4, the closure will see the repair of the railway bridge nearly one year since it was damaged.
The three-week closure is scheduled to be in force until October 27 as “utility diversions and bridge repairs” get underway.
According to Southampton City Council, diversions will be in place for those due to travel on the eastbound side, heading towards Bitterne Park.
These diversions will be in force on the following roads: Thomas Lewis Way, Bevois Valley Road, Onslow Road, Dorset Street, Charlotte Place, St Andrews Road, Six Dials, Northam Road, Northam Bridge, Bitterne Road West, and Bullar Road.
The council is working with Balfour Beatty, Network Rail and SSEN to repair the affected wall.

The wall remains in a “safe but unstable” position after it collapsed in December last year.
Piles of rubble landed outside a block of flats and has remained there since.
One lane of the westbound side has been permanently closed, causing heavy delays.
The council previously said it requires “comprehensive rebuilding” and “very regular” safety inspections.
