Two crews from Hightown and one crew from St Mary’s were called to the shop in Weston Lane shortly before 10.30pm.
The large emergency response surprised Weston resident Tom Bolton.

He said: “I was walking down the road back home and saw the Co-op staff outside. Next thing you know you have three fire engines outside the premises.”
But the fire service confirmed the call out was a false alarm.
A spokesperson said: “On October 1 at 10.23pm two crews from Hightown and one crew from St Mary's responded to a false alarm at The Co-Operative Food store, on Weston Lane, Southampton.
“The stop came in at 10.55pm.”
