The unmistakable rumbling sound of a Chinook was heard flying over Southampton on Wednesday evening.
The Royal Air Force helicopter was spotted by residents in Ocean Village as it circled the Southampton skyline.
The Chinook made its way to Southampton from RAF Odiham, the force’s Hampshire location and is a front-line support helicopter base working within the Joint Helicopter Command.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the RAF confirmed that the Chinook was completing routine training across the south of England.
They said: “An RAF Chinook, from RAF Odiham, Hampshire, completed a routine operational training sortie across Southern England yesterday which included practice approaches to Southampton Airport.
“RAF helicopter crews use a variety of training areas during the day and night around the whole of the UK for training and vary their routes and training locations to maximise training benefit.
“Such training enabling our crews to train in varied environments in preparation for operations across the globe.”
