A show at the Mayflower Theatre hangs in the balance with performers set to go on strike next month.
Members of the chorus at the Welsh National Opera (WNO) are scheduled to strike on Friday, November 15, following cuts to their public funding.
It coincides with a performance of Opera Favourites at the Movies in Southampton.
The production of the show is set to feature music from Apocalypse Now, Quantum of Solace, and House of Gucci.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the WNO said: “Welsh National Opera is continuing to engage in open and transparent negotiations with unions and are committed to finding a solution which works for WNO chorus and orchestra members while also recognising the reality of WNO’s financial situation following significant cuts to their public funding.
“At the moment they are continuing to do everything they can to avert industrial action, but should the situation change then ticket holders will be contacted at the earliest opportunity.”
It comes as members at the WNO paused strike action for this Friday – October 11 – to allow more talks to be held in a dispute over cuts.
Action short of strike will go ahead instead, involving chorus members wearing T-shirts saying ‘#SaveOurWNO #AchubOCC’ and leafleting audience members outside the venue, prior to a production of Opera Favourites at the Movies in Llandudno, Wales.

Simon Curtis, Equity Wales official, said: “Equity’s discussions have been ongoing with WNO management since April of this year, but it is only now – with a new interim general director at the WNO – that our concerns are being addressed seriously and with an appreciation of the highly skilled jobs our members do for the company.
“To make sure we explore every possible option to safeguard jobs and the workforce requires time, and that is why we are allowing this new management space to reach an agreement which works for our members.”
He added: “The chorus continue to be concerned about the implications and any implementation of management’s most recent proposals, and our demands remain the same – a full-time chorus on a full-time wage, with no compulsory redundancies.”
