A man's body was found on a boat which was docked in the city, police have confirmed.

The body of a man in his 40s was found on September 5 at Southampton Docks and at current the death has been described by police as "unexplained".

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We were called to the docks in Southampton at 6.39pm on Thursday, September 5, where the body of a man in his 40s was located on a boat.

“His next of kin have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner in relation to this unexpected death.”

It's understood police found the body onboard on the Itchen and then asked ABP to remove four vessels linked to the person.

An ABP spokesperson said: “We assisted Hampshire Police with an incident on the River Itchen.

"Hampshire police contacted us for support to remove vacant vessels from the river. 

"The vessels were towed to the Port. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the person involved.”
