Police have shut down a residential property plagued by drugs and crime.

Magistrates were asked to shut the home over concerns about drug supply and related issues at Hawkley Green in Weston.

The concerns raised by members of the public prompted Hampshire police to apply for a three-month closure order of the Southampton property.

This was approved at Southampton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, October 9.

Acting Police Sergeant Vincent, who forms part of the Weston and Woolston Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We will not tolerate the sustained dealing of illegal drugs, and the associated harm that is often associated with these offences, within our local communities.

“This address has been a blight on the community for a number of years and I’m pleased to say that it has now been closed for a period of three months.

“We are grateful for the community who have provided information to us about the issues linked to drugs supply and anti-social behaviour.

"We will continue to target the individuals and addresses that cause misery to our communities, through their involvement with drugs.

“We hope this reassures the public that we simply won’t tolerate this type of behaviour and offending and will work in partnership to explore every avenue to put a stop to it.

“Please keep reporting information to us by either calling 101, or visiting the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website, as every piece of information we receive from you helps us develop the bigger picture and take action.”

The closure is to ensure individuals involved in drug and crime-related activity do not return to the address.

Anyone found to enter the property will be liable to arrest and prosecution, which could result in up to six months in jail, a fine, or both.

Only those who have a lawful reason to enter the address – such as police and other emergency services – can do so.

A man arrested during the closure has been charged with two charges of shoplifting.

Daniel Davin Robinson, 38, of Commercial Road, Southampton was remanded in custody to appear at Southampton Magistrates’ Court today.
