Traffic lights on Civic Centre Road at the busy junction of Civic Centre Hill, Havelock Road and Portland Terrace are still not working - and this is why.

The traffic lights have been switched off for several days, leading to delays.

Permanent repairs were scheduled to take place, but have so far not been possible due to challenges securing unique parts that power the lights that are no longer manufactured.

It means the junction, which is a key thoroughfare in the city, will be under temporary traffic lights.

A spokesperson for Southampton City Council said: "We are currently working on a permanent solution, however in the meantime the light signals on this junction will be replaced with temporary traffic signals which will continue to operate until replacements have been installed.

"We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve the situation and advise that you please plan your journey where you can and seek alternative travel options where possible."

Frustrations continue with the traffic lights, with one Facebook user commenting: "Shouldn’t this have been considered prior to them breaking as part of risk mitigation? I walk to/from work this way and it is a very confusing junction and just got worse with the inactivity of the traffic lights."

Another user said: "Oh dear more chaos expected then."
