The next stage of a long-running estate regeneration has been revealed by the council.

Demolition of the dilapidated blocks in Townhill Park - that have remained untouched since 2011 - began in September.

The scheme has taken more than 13 years to get off the ground but progress is now steady.

Southampton City Council has this month issued updates on each area of the development.

One of the blocks has already been bulldozed by contractors Hampshire Environmental Services Ltd.

Workers are in the progress of dismantling the interior of the buildings at both sites, which is known as the ‘soft strip’.

Asbestos removal works are also underway.

Meggeson Avenue, Townhill Way, Paulet Close and Cutbush Lane plots

The tender for Plot 2, which has a boundary of Meggeson Avenue, Townhill Way, Paulet Close and Cutbush Lane, has been given to the council's registered provider partners as part of the Affordable Homes Framework.

This is also the case with the plot at Rowlands Walk.

For this site, the tenders expected to return at the end of October and will then be evaluated by the council, with the outcome expected at the end of this year.

For the Copse Road plot, designs have been developed and costed and over the autumn.

It will then be decided if the homes are delivered by the council or added to the Affordable Houses Framework.

Kingsdown Way and Meggeson Avenue shops plot

At the former pub and shops site in Meggeson Avenue, the council has agreed for the former local housing office onsite to be for the use of the community.

The Edge Cafe team is running community events and drops in in the meantime.

At Kingsdown Way, the former houses are being decommissioned.

This is expected to be completed in the spring of next year, but this depends on the availability of accommodation for those being moved from the area.

The council is currently reviewing the decommissioning of blocks  254-274, 276-296, 289-309, and 311-331 at Meggeson Avenue
