Police have caught more than two dozen speeding drivers on a city centre road after residents raised concerns.

Officers from Bargate's neighbourhood policing team, as well as the roads policing unit, teamed up to conduct the speed checks on Bugle Street last Monday.

It came after residents raised concerns with beat officer PC Bart Tluchowski.

Police found 25 vehicles to be breaking the 20mph speed limit, including one caught over 35mph.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: "Amongst these, some received tickets and some people will be appearing at court.

"This road is 20mph and often frequented by young children and members of our elderly community.

"Bargate Neighbourhoods will continue to monitor speeds throughout the day including mornings in the coming weeks. Community safety is one of our main priorities and we are keen to address our communities direct concerns.

"This is just a portion of our recent work. As usual our officers have been dealing with other serious incidents and the night time economy."
