Four Southampton play areas and a Lordshill school are set to benefit from new improvements according to the leader of the city council. 

The play areas that have been earmarked for improvements are the Aldermoor Rec, Steuart Road, Hinkler Green, Octavia Road and at the mound on Fairisle Junior School.

A revamp costing almost £75,000 has taken place at the multi-use games area at Aldermoor Rec.

The refurbishment includes new fencing, two goal ends, fresh court markings, and a small outdoor gym.

Leader of Southampton City Council, Lorna Fielker, said: "Through a consultation process with residents in Lordshill, we gathered feedback on their preferences which have been incorporated into the project.

"We are delighted to bring these improvements to the community with the support of the funding early next year."

Located near Bitterne Station, on Steuart Road the council has said it will be delivering a major refurbishment to the play area before Christmas.

Cllr Fielker added: "We will install a new junior multi-unit, new toddler multi-unit, cradle and flat seat swing seats fitted to a double bay swing set, multi child Seesaw, springer and two spinners.  

Residents in Thornhill will also benefit from improvements at Hinkler Green with the council stating the new additions will be similar to those being installed at Steuart Road. 

Those families living in Octavia Road, Swaythling, will also benefit from play area improvements and the council said these will be put in place before the end of the year. 

A new play area is also set to be brought to the pupils at Fairisle Junior School with a new play are set for the mound area. 

The council leader said: "Back in 2021, we asked the children what they liked playing on and have used those results to create play space on the mound soon.

"Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a whole host of fun play equipment including a double tower multi-play unit complete with spider's web and slide.

"I hope that you and your little ones have the opportunity to make use of and enjoy these wonderful spaces across the city."
