A man was assaulted inside a vehicle which later crashed into a tree and caught fire, police have said.
A man was allegedly assaulted by two others inside the vehicle during the incident on Thornhill Park Road, at around 8.40pm last night.
The vehicle later crashed into a tree and caught fire, with firefighters extinguishing the fire.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “As the incident unfolded, a member of the public is said to have attempted to intervene and as part of our ongoing enquiries, we are keen to speak to this individual.
“If this was you, we would really urge you to reach out and contact us.”

The police spokesperson added: “Our enquiries are ongoing in relation to the incident to ascertain the exact circumstances.
“If you are the person who intervened in the incident, or if you witnessed the incident take place or perhaps have dash-cam or CCTV footage, we would ask that you contact us on 101, quoting crime reference 44240449315.”
