It's the ladies only gym celebrating 19 years of helping members of all ages, shapes and sizes.

Curves in Eastleigh aims to help the community in a number of ways - by helping ladies keep fit and healthy, supporting the food bank and taking part in charity events.

Owner Michelle Goodyear, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis ten years ago, counts a number of members with disabilities and illnesses among her members.

She said: "I wear a leg brace, but nothing stops me from working out! This encourages others to come and try Curves.

"We're so proud we've managed to be in business so long. We survived the lockdown, not many small businesses did, but through hard work and determination, we did.

"We have been through so many pressures what with Covid nearly destroying my business but my ladies really helped saved the club."

There is a coach at every workout to guide and help members achieve their goals, establishing an individual plan that works for you, your lifestyle, and your fitness level.

Training works in intervals of 30 seconds as this is the optimal time for strength training. Your muscles can ‘sprint’ for around 30 seconds before they begin to exhaust. The Curves Circuit is designed to vary between upper body, lower body, and core exercises. After each machine you will move to a metabolic conditioning station, allowing muscles to recover.

True strength training requires you to move a resistance greater than the muscle is accustomed to.

The hydraulic resistance feature allows strength training and cardiovascular training simultaneously. By working opposing muscle groups, the muscles work symmetrically (or in balance). This aligns the muscular-skeletal system to improve posture and functional movement.

Last but not least, stretching is a key component of optimum health. By stretching regularly you will maintain the integrity of your joints and significantly improve your strength training and weight loss efforts.

The gym, in Upper Market Street, also enjoys free parking.

Ladies are being offered a free one week trial if they mention this Daily Echo article.
