Drivers have hit out at the amount of travel disruption in Southampton, with one motorist coining the term ‘carmaggedon.’
Motorists lamented travel chaos on Thursday evening with vehicles grinding to a halt across Southampton, Eastleigh, and Hedge End – with the M27 exit slip for Hedge End (J7/A334) closed until 6am on Saturday, October 19.
Speaking on X – formerly known as Twitter – Dave Adcock said: “It really is quite a mess.
“No buses getting to Parkway station. My wife walking from there… 40 minutes.
“Is there anything you can do or will this carmaggedon continue?”

Also commenting on the social media platform, Jon Walters said: “Reports of congestion… it took me three hours to get from central Eastleigh to Bitterne Manor. The city’s gridlocked.”
AA Traffic News reported of a 30-minute travel time due to the long delays on A335 Stoneham Way at junction 5 of the M27.
More motorists vented their frustration at the long delays on Facebook.
Lindsey Reyner said: “Hour and ten minutes to get from The Avenue to Hedge End. Southampton City Council, please send help!”
Kelly Downes added: “My sister left work at 5pm in Eastleigh trying to get to Hedge End, still stuck near there over an hour later.”
While Ian Eyers said: “Southampton is a joke with the roadworks and the traffic chaos it’s causing.”
