St George's Hall in Calshot has been transformed following a major revamp.

The newly improved venue will be unveiled to residents at a re-opening event on Wednesday, October 30.

The event, organised by Fawley Parish Council and New Forest District Council (NFDC), will run from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, featuring displays, activities, and refreshments.

It will also showcase information about the hall's history and Calshot, with a film on local history screened in the new cinema room.

The Waterside Food Project, Fawley Youth Life, and Culture in Common will also be present, running various activities.

Inside the hall, changes include room size adjustments to create a large kitchen, a cinema room, and an accessible toilet.

The entire facility has been redecorated, with new acoustic flooring laid throughout.

Energy efficiency measures have also been implemented, such as new insulated ceilings and walls.

Outside, a community garden, skate ramp, all-weather shelter, goal posts, and a basketball net have been added.

The project, which has preserved the building's original character, aims to increase its use by the local community.

St George’s will now host a variety of community events and provide facilities for a youth club, community garden project, and community hub and food larder collection.

The cinema room will be dedicated to Dora Tarrant, a 1961 evacuee from Tristan De Cunha Islands, who made a significant impact in the community.

The project is part-funded by the UK Government through the Rural England Prosperity Fund, part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, and the Contain Outbreak Management Fund.

Councillor Dan Poole, NFDC’s portfolio holder for community, safety, and wellbeing, said: "I am so pleased we have been able to improve St George’s Hall; an important local asset which has a strong identity with the community here.

"When we started to look at what facilities were available here around a year ago, we knew we needed to act and, looking around, I am confident there will soon be a new buzz in the building as people start to enjoy these facilities, coming together with family, neighbours, and friends."
