A group of men seen wielding machetes prompted an armed police response.

Officers were called at 5pm on Saturday following reports that a group of men had been seen with the weapons on Allington Lane.

But when the teams arrived, no men or weapons were located and no-one was found injured.

As they continued to investigate, officers approached a vehicle which was driving on Allington Lane.

The vehicle initially stopped, before reversing into a police car and causing damage to the vehicle.

There were no injuries.

The occupants fled the scene and the vehicle was located abandoned at a separate location on Allington Lane.

Police officers were seen in the fields adjacent to the Garden Society at around 7pm last night.

At around this time, white van was seen being towed from the area, with a police car following behind.

A police spokesperson said: "An area search was conducted and an investigation into this incident has been launched, however no arrests have been made at the current time."
