Fareham firms are working together to combat exploding lithium-ion batteries at waste and recycling handling centres.
Barnbrook Systems, Flair, and TJ Waste & Recycling will trial new technology in Portsmouth.
The E-bag system allows overheating, smoking, or burning batteries, or their parent devices, to be safely isolated.
Its nanotechnology extinguishes the flames and prevents ignition by smothering.
The E-bag will be trialled at TJ Waste and Recycling's Materials Recovery Facility after a major blaze, believed to have been sparked by a lithium-ion battery, consumed 117 tonnes of material.
Andrew Barnett, managing director of Barnbrook Systems, said: "This is game-changing technology which can deal with the increasing threat from lithium-ion batteries.
"We are looking forward to working with TJ Waste & Recycling in the UK's first trial of its kind using our E-bag technology which has the potential to save lives and money while supporting business continuity and enhancing community confidence."
