Controversial plans to build new outdoor courts at a Hampshire sports centre have been withdrawn by the applicant.
Places Leisure Eastleigh sparked fury after submitting proposals to provide four padel courts on a green space at its site in Passfield Avenue.
Padel is a form of tennis played on an enclosed court and is said to be the fastest growing sport in the world.
But the plans sparked a wave of opposition from residents in the area.
Objectors cited fears over the levels of noise caused by the court while others said the green near Fleming Park should not be used.
Passfield Avenue resident Jean Turner said: “I strongly object to the loss of green space this development will cause. "
Fellow objector Steve Symmonds added: "From what I read padel is a very noisy sport resulting in many complaints from residents who live nearby."
Eastleigh Borough Council's website confirms the application has been withdrawn, but does not say why.
