A study has ranked Southampton sixth in England for the best walking trails in England.
The research, carried out by outdoor experts at Millets, considered various factors to determine the UK’s greenest regions.
The study, which named the UK’s greenest regions, looked at the number of walking trails, annual emissions, and the number of eco-friendly campsites.
Southampton has 89 walking trails, with an average of 17.8 trails per 10 square km.
The city also has an average of 22.6 parks, public gardens, or playing fields within a 1,000-metre radius.
Sheffield, in South Yorkshire, topped the list with 186 walking trails, including the Rivelin and Redmires Reservoirs circular trail at the eastern end of the Peak District.
Bristol followed with 150 walking trails, featuring parks such as Brandon Hill and Castle Park.
In other findings from the study, Gwynedd was identified as having the most walking trails in Wales, Cornwall boasts the most eco-friendly campsites in England, and London hosts the greenest festivals in the country.
