Three people have been injured in a crash on the M3 after a car drove the wrong way.
The two-vehicle crash occurred between junction 9 at Winchester and junction 8 at the A303 near Basingstoke.
It happened at around 7pm on Saturday.
The incident occurred after a vehicle was seen travelling the wrong way on the motorway.
The M3 was closed in both directions while emergency crews attended the scene, with multiple ambulances attending the incident.
The road did not reopen until the early hours of Sunday morning.
Three people were injured, with the driver of the car which had been driving the wrong way suffering serious injuries, and the occupants of the other vehicle reporting minor injuries.
One person needed to be extracted by firefighters, with crews from Eastleigh, Winchester, Basingstoke and Redbridge responding.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "We were called at 7pm to a report of a collision involving two cars on the M3 northbound.
"It was reported one of the vehicles had been travelling in the wrong direction. The driver of this vehicle suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital.
"Two people in the second vehicle reported minor injuries."
