A Ringwood man is set to enter the boxing ring to raise money after his cousin was involved in a fatal stabbing.

Harry Edwards is raising money for Lives not Knives, a London based charity dedicated to preventing knife-related incidents.

Luke Gray died earlier this year, two and a half years after being badly injured in a stabbing in October 2021.

His friend, Max Maguire, was killed in the attack in Lymington.

Now, Harry is stepping into the boxing ring for his cousin on November 16 for the UWCB event at the BIC in Bournemouth.

He said: “Luke was a complete fighter, he fought for two and half years to get over this hideous, unprovoked attack.

“I have seen the horrendous impact on his mum and her twin sister, my mum – it has affected us all terribly. I am fighting to raise awareness of Lives Not Knives, in the hope that we can do one small thing to help stop the national epidemic of knife crime.”

Luke’s mum Sarah said:  “I am tremendously proud of what Harry is doing not only for his cousin, my son, but for all the sons and daughters out there that will be lost due to people carrying knives."

Luke was stabbed twice in the back and Max died from his injuries.

Luke witnessed the killing of his best friend and the serious wounding of another friend and his heart stopped three times during the incident.

He underwent repeated operations, multiple infections and treatments as a result of the stabbing.

Luke died in July despite the efforts of his family to revive him, two and a half years after the stabbing.

In April last year, Draven Jewell was jailed for 16 years having been convicted of the manslaughter of Max.

Jewell, of Flushards, Lymington was also found guilty of two charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Max, a fisherman from Pennington, had been at the Royal British Legion Club with friends when a fight broke out in the alleyway near the entrance soon after he left.

He was stabbed in the chest and pronounced dead at the scene.

Jewell fled with his two brothers and returned home where he was arrested in the early hours of the next day.
