Police are searching for a driver who was seen travelling the wrong way down the A27 in the early hours of this morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 3.45am on Wednesday, October 30, when a black Citroen Berlingo failed to stop on the M27, near junction 12, for police.

Having left the A27 at the exit for Emsworth, the vehicle then returned but drove east on the westbound carriageway before being abandoned at the BP service station.

A search of the area was conducted by officers, but the occupants of the vehicle were not located.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “We are appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage after a vehicle drove the wrong way on the A27 in the early hours of this morning (October 30).

“Enquiries are ongoing to understand the exact circumstances of the incident.

“While we know traffic on the road at this time would have been limited, we are keen to hear from anyone who saw the Berlingo driving the wrong way on the A27.

“In particular, we would like to speak to anyone with dash-cam footage.”

They added: “Anyone with information should call 101, quoting the reference 44240468739.”
