Silverlake Automotive Recycling, a longstanding business rooted in Hampshire, is driving significant economic growth, job creation, and environmental innovation in the UK’s automotive vehicle recycling industry.
Established nearly 80 years ago, Silverlake has grown into one of the nation’s foremost vehicle recycling centres, not only providing quality automotive parts but also making a positive impact through eco-conscious business practices and strong local engagement and support.
New jobs and local economic support
With our recent expansion plans shared, we aim to create over 60 new jobs, adding to our existing workforce of over 150 people. The company prioritises hiring from the local area, with 73% of its employees residing within a 10-mile radius, reflecting our commitment to bolstering the local economy. This approach means that Silverlake doesn’t just provide jobs; it actively enriches the local community, supporting families and contributing to regional stability.
Allen Prebble, Silverlake’s managing director, emphasises the value of creating job opportunities locally, ensuring that Silverlake’s growth brings direct benefits to local Hampshire residents.
Sustainability and environmental excellence
Our dedication to sustainable practices has gained national and regional recognition, including accolades at the UK Green Business Awards and Solent250 Business Awards, plus many more. We have committed to ambitious environmental goals, such as achieving zero waste to landfill by 2030 and cutting carbon emissions by 42% through the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
These efforts align with the UK’s shift towards a greener economy, making Silverlake a leading example of how environmentally responsible practices can complement economic growth.
Pioneering vehicle recycling in the UK
The company’s planned site expansion will place Silverlake at the forefront of handling next-generation vehicle recycling challenges, including the sheer volume of cars being recycled, of which we recycle on average 96.7% of a vehicle.
As one of the few facilities equipped to tackle the complexities of modern vehicle recycling, Silverlake is setting a national benchmark, preparing to support car manufacturers in meeting stringent recycling and carbon footprint goals. Silverlake’s expansion will not only increase its physical capacity but also enhance its online parts sales, providing high-quality reclaimed parts to be reused in Hampshire and beyond, helping keep cars on the road at an affordable rate during difficult times.
Investing in the community
Silverlake’s commitment to community well-being goes beyond job creation and environmental goals. The company actively engages with local organisations, contributes to charity events, and fosters a sense of community involvement. From supporting local emergency services to hosting public consultations for their expansion plans, Silverlake continuously seeks to engage with and invest in the community it calls home.
Our growth plans are paving the way for a sustainable and prosperous future for Hampshire, setting a high standard in both environmental stewardship and community-focused economic development. This expansion represents more than business growth; it’s a renewal of Silverlake’s role as a cornerstone in the local community, dedicated to job creation, environmental responsibility, and local prosperity.
