A man was strangled after leaving a pub in an early hours assault.

It was reported to police that between midnight and half past midnight on October 19, a man in his 30s was walking to the bus station via Harper Way with his wife.

The pair had left the Lord Arthur Lee pub and were approached by a man not known to them.

The man threw the victim to the floor, causing him to hit his head on the pavement, before proceeding to strangle him.

The assault only stopped when two members of the public – described as a man and a woman – intervened, and the attacker got into a nearby vehicle.
