A New Forest gardener’s dream of finding love has ended for now after exiting Married at First Sight UK.

Caspar Todd married Emma Barnes, a 31-year-old investment sales manager from Bristol, on the E4 programme, Married at First Sight UK.

The reality TV show sees singletons paired together and quite literally married at first sight, before seeing if they’re able to make the relationship work in their day-to-day life in front of the cameras.

The couple’s marriage was marred by setbacks. It started after the pair honeymooned in Jamaica when things quickly became tense after Caspar confessed to Emma that he didn’t find her attractive and that he rarely dates the “curvier person.”

Over the duration of the series, the couple struggled to embrace their marriage in the same way seen by other contestants on the show.

Speaking to relationship experts at a couple’s commitment ceremony – where each husband and wife has the opportunity to say whether or not they want to continue with the experiment – Caspar, 34, said: “We’re not where we want to be.

“I got a lot of clarification this week about my relationship with Emma, she’s not been emotionally vulnerable with me.

“We both came here looking for love and we’ve not found that. Both Emma and I came on the show looking for ‘the one,’ I think Emma is a lovely person, but I’ve found that we live our lives in different ways.”

Caspar then announced he was wanting to exit the process, before Emma emotionally said: “I need to be loved in order to love.

“I’ve done a lot of reflection and thrown everything into our relationship. I feel like it’s the right time to leave.

“I think every man and woman deserves to be treated like a king or queen in their relationship, we just can’t give that to each other.”

The couple exited Married at First Sight UK 25 episodes into the series.
