The reason for the closure of the Itchen Bridge this morning (November 2) has been revealed by police.
The bridge linking the A3025 to Southampton city centre was closed in both directions in the early hours of the morning.
A concern for the welfare of a man was reported at 5.49am and emergency services attended the scene.

The council warned residents about the bridge's temporary closure on social media, writing on X: "An incident has occurred on the Itchen Bridge and it is currently closed in both directions whilst emergency services attend.
"Please approach with caution and plan any journeys if using this route."
Just before 7am, the bridge reopened as normal.
