A children’s hospital radio station in Southampton is on the search for an enthusiastic fundraiser co-ordinator.

After recruiting a new wave of volunteers, Radio Lollipop Southampton is looking for someone to front its fundraising team and help raise money to cheer up sick children in hospital.

The volunteer-run radio station, which has recently turned 30 years old, provides music and play at a time when many youngsters can feel frightened and vulnerable.

While Radio Lollipop does run a 24/7 programme from a small studio at Southampton General Hospital, it currently cannot broadcast directly to the wards.

The team instead make their presence felt by bringing toys, games, colouring and crafts to the children’s ward twice a week, adding a touch of normality to kids’ hospital stay.

Radio Lollipop Southampton trustee Tina Jones said: “Although we have coped for a number of years now without anyone in the role, the time has come when we really do need a fundraising co-ordinator.

“The post is important but not as daunting as it sounds.

“We are not looking for someone to raise lots of money single-handedly; it is more about overseeing fundraising events and lots of support will be available centrally.”
