Two care home residents have been honoured for their lifelong community work.
Stan and Betty Newell, both 96, were given The Hound Medal by Hound Parish Council on October 26.
The couple, who moved to Maypole Bupa care home in Southampton 18 months ago, spent their married life in the parish of Hound.
Over the years, they significantly contributed to the village of Netley Abbey.
Both were active members of the British Legion, with Stan serving as president of the Netley and Hamble branch. In this role, he organised the Poppy Appeal.
The couple also dedicated their time to being club scout leaders.
Activity co-ordinator at Maypole, Karen Singleton, said: "We are so proud of Stan and Betty, and pleased they are being recognised for their generous work in their community.
"It was a fabulous afternoon, members from the council visited Stan and Betty at the home to present them their award. Their children and grandchildren were all very pleased and supportive. Hound Parish Council provided nibbles and drinks for the afternoon event."
Stan Newel said: "We were pleasantly surprised to be given this award, it’s been an honour working for and serving our community over the years."
"Giving back and helping when we can is something Betty and I have been very passionate about over our lifetime, and I am grateful we did it together. I hope future generations remember the importance of community."
The Hound Medal is a recognition of the couple’s ongoing voluntary work for the village.
Their dedication over the years has left a lasting impact on the community.
