A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing a spate of burglaries.

The 24-year-old, from Gosport, was arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of a string of offences.

He remains in custody, police said.

The offences he was arrested for include eight burglaries which happened in Gosport and Stubbington on September 20, October 15 and November 4.

Items reported to have been stolen include rings, cash, airsoft equipment, jewellery, a purse, a wallet, an Xbox controller, Playstaton controllers, cash and cigarettes.

A moped was taken from one property, which was later found dumped in a pond, police said, and one bike was taken located in a nearby alleyway.

He was also arrested on suspicion of two counts of vehicle intereference, in Village Close and Northways, Stubbington, both on November 4.

Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy, District Commander for Fareham and Gosport, said: “Having spoken to some people directly who live in the Stubbington area in particular, I know how these incidents have struck fear into the community.

"Burglary leaves people feeling unsafe in their own homes, and I want to reassure residents across Fareham and Gosport that we are investigating these incidents thoroughly."

Police are still appealing for anyone with information to contact them quoting Operation Inquisitive.
