A care home has put together a special display for Remembrance.
Sunnybank House in Eastleigh has created the display using over 2,400 poppies knitted by residents and the wider community.
The display includes life-sized models of a lady in a dress made of knitted poppies and a soldier in uniform. Both figures stand against a backdrop of 100 wooden crosses, commemorating over 500 veterans, as well as those who have died in wars since 1914.
The scene also includes a grass of poppies and other service memorabilia, with the army, navy, Royal Air Force, and Merchant Navy ensigns draping the corners.
The display is open for the public to visit from 9am until 6pm from November 6-12 at Sunnybank House on Botley Road.
A remembrance service will take place at 11am on November 11.
On the same day, at the Fair Oak Village War Memorial, Sunnybank House resident Roger Verlander, 87, who served in the Royal Navy, will lay a wreath on behalf of the care home’s residents and staff.
He will be joined by the care home’s activities coordinator, Julie, who served in the Royal Air Force for several years.
James Greene, general manager at Sunnybank House, said: "Our display in our gardens last year, consisting of over 2,000 knitted poppies attracted many visitors, so this year our staff and residents decided to go a step further by creating this unique, life-sized tableau.
"We welcome all visitors from the community to come to Sunnybank House to see it and pay respect to those who gave their lives protecting our freedoms.
"We are also holding a short remembrance service on Monday 11th November – all members of the local community are very welcome to join our staff and residents in our gardens."
Sunnybank House provides residential, dementia, and respite care and is part of the Cinnamon Care Collection, which has been recognised as a top 20 large care home group by Carehome.co.uk for the past seven years.
