The Salvation Army has launched an appeal for new toy donations for families struggling this Christmas.
The Southampton Shirley branch distribution last year helped more than 300 children, and the church fears demand will increase this year.
The church on Victor Street will be accepting donations of new unwrapped toys and non-perishable food items from November 1 to December 2.
Donors can drop off items at the church, make a donation via JustGiving or through the Amazon wish list.
The Salvation Army will coordinate the distribution of gifts to local children and families through community groups, schools, and social services.
Suggested gifts range from educational and bath toys to dolls, action figures, and sports equipment. Clothing items, toiletries, and gift vouchers for older children are also welcomed.
Additionally, donations can be made through The Entertainer’s Big Toy Appeal.
Customers can purchase an extra toy to donate when they visit a store or shop online at TheToyShop.com.
The Entertainer will match each donation with an additional toy, effectively doubling the contribution.
Each Entertainer store is linked with a local Salvation Army church or centre that will collect and distribute the toys as part of the broader Christmas Present Appeal.
Captain Vicky Crawford said: "The Salvation Army’s present appeal is an opportunity for people in our communities to embrace the spirit of Christmas and give to families and individuals who have very little. We are incredibly grateful for the public’s generosity over the years and hope this year our appeal will be able to bring some respite to those who are struggling the most.
"Christmas is a time when financial worries are brought into sharp focus as the cost of living crisis continues to have a devastating impact on families who can’t afford to heat their homes or put a nutritious meal on the table."
The Salvation Army is a church and charity organisation dedicated to extending friendship, practical help, and support to disadvantaged individuals in communities.
