Hollywood came to Hampshire as future stars of the screen took to the red carpet for a glamorous film premiere.

Acting students from UK Film Academy arrived in chauffeur driven limousines to a cheering crowd as they gathered for the world first screening of their new work at Botleigh Grange Hotel near Botley at the weekend.

The showcase included the screening of A Haunted House, a Halloween film experience created over the October half term, produced and coached by former Hollyoaks actor Jeremy Edwards.

Parents and guests also enjoyed other work compiled by the students themselves, some of which is set to be shown on BBC iPlayer.

The short film content was produced with the support of professional acting coaches and camera crew from UK Film Academy, set up nearly 20 years ago by former West End performer Louisa Hart to give young people a voice in the industry, and filmed locally.

It was designed to highlight important issues faced by young people, including mental health problems.

"They absolutely loved their moment in the spotlight."

It comes as the city's celebration of cinema Southampton Film Week continues until Sunday. Now in its 17th year, it includes an eclectic mix of features, shorts, documentaries, and live music-enhanced cinema experiences, including an immersive Monty Python cinema experience.

Previous students have gone on to star in a number of feature films, commercials and TV dramas in lead roles.

But teachers say they are most proud when they see students make friends for life or build their confidence to help them better navigate their teenage years.

Students regularly have the opportunity to create their own showreels and showcase them in front of invited casting directors and agents, as well as taking part in award-winning films.
