A businessman was woken late at night after a car smashed into his parked Vauxhall outside his house.

Ahmed Soliman, who runs Cruise Azure Parking, had his Vauxhall Zafira written off after a car smashed into it last week, and then drove away.

Now he's asked why he's paying tax to the police after Hampshire Constabulary said they would not investigate - despite him providing CCTV of the crash.

Ahmed was asleep when the other car, which he believes to be a blue Volkswagen, sped down the road on November 6 just before 11.45pm.

“The car now is a total write-off,” said Ahmed, after insurance came and took the car away.

“Sometimes I get back [home] late, at 10pm, 11pm. If I was getting out of the car at that time of night, I could’ve been kaput.

“Lots of people walk their dog on this road at that time of night. If someone was walking at that time, they would’ve run them over as well.

Ahmed has since received a letter from Hampshire Constabulary telling him they will not be investigating unless "further significant evidence comes to light" - despite the CCTV footage and a witness who saw the crash unfold coming forward.

The owner of Cruze Azure Parking, a park and ride service for cruise passengers, has questioned whether police could have done more to prevent future accidents.

“It’s not right for someone to drive at that speed at night through a residential area,” the Chessel Avenue resident said.

“I was sleeping but that woke me, and I went to speak to all the neighbours who said they all got up to look out the window.

“If the insurance paid for it, [the money] does not matter. My problem is that it could have been a human, that could have been me.”

He continued: “As a business owner, I pay a serious tax. I pay a lot of money. Why would the police take a share of this if they are not doing their job?”

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “At around 11.40pm on Wednesday, 6 November a damage only collision occurred on Chessel Avenue.

“This incident has been reviewed by our Collision Assessment Team and based on the information that’s been reported a decision has been made for police to take no further action.

“The complainant has been advised that this matter should be dealt with through their insurance company.”
