Drivers in Totton are being warned as SGN are undertaking emergency gas works that are likely to cause long delays.
Salisbury Road in Totton has been hit by temporary traffic lights as SGN undertakes work to replace the gas main.
Despite attempting to repair a section of the gas main that is prone to leaks, the company said that the only viable permanent solution is a full replacement of the main.
The works started on October 31 and are set to last until December 20.

A spokesperson for SGN said: "Our engineers are replacing the gas main on Salisbury Road between the junction of Nutsey Avenue to just past the junction of Stanley Road.
"Due to the location of the gas main in the road and for everyone’s safety we will need to have traffic lights in place for the duration of the work.
"We are confident we’ll be complete before Christmas.
"We’re sorry for the inconvenience our work is causing, the team are working as quickly as possible to complete these works without further delay."
