A suspected arsonist set fire to a public toilet in Hythe, police said.
On Saturday November 9, at around 7pm, Hampshire police responded to reports of criminal damage and anti-social behaviour in Hythe around the public toilets.
Upon arrival, the team saw smoke coming out of the public toilets and as officers approached it became clear that a fire had been set in the disabled toilet.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary said: “All of our vehicles have fire extinguishers, and thankfully we managed to catch the fire before it had become too large and avoided damage to the building.

“Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service were called by Police, and the team from Hardley Fire Station arrived soon after to make sure the fire was fully put out to avoid another any chance of it re-igniting.
“To recklessly target public conveniences which benefit the whole community, especially the disabled toilets, is such an abhorrent thing to do.
“This was also the day before Remembrance Sunday, so thankfully the fire was stopped before it was too late otherwise the Remembrance Parade would have had to walk past a burnt-out building.
“Three stop and searches were carried out of individuals suspected to have had some involvement.
“The CCTV will be reviewed to identify the suspects and the investigation will be progressed.”
Hampshire Constabulary added that enquiries are ongoing and officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
