Rush hour traffic on the M27 this morning was ground to a halt near Portsmouth due to two collisions within 100 metres of each other.
Around 7am this morning, police attended the scene of two incidents between Junction 12 and 11 on the westbound carriageway of the M27.
Six vehicles were involved across the two incidents and no injuries were reported to the police.
Queues built in the wake of the crashes, leaving traffic at a standstill westbound backing up to Langstone Roundabout, and grinding the A3M to a halt at Junction 3.
Five of the vehicles involved were driveable, but one white SUV-style car was left with a “crumpled bonnet” according to a witness and had to be recovered.
The white car was moved to the hard shoulder, allowing lanes to reopen by 7.27am, and was eventually towed away from the scene.
RAC Traffic Map reported that all traffic had “returned to normal” by 9am.
