COUNCILLORS expressed concerns about flooding preparations in Romsey following the flash floods in Spain.

Cllr Colin Burgess raised the issue at the town council meeting on Tuesday, November 12 after flash floods wreaked havoc in Spain.

The councillor asked for a presentation to be given to the council about Test Valley Borough Council's preparations so that it might "give us confidence that the plan is robust".

Mayor Cllr John Parker gave reassurances that the borough council's flood plans would be up to the job. He said: "I attended the recent Test Valley Resilience Forum and what I can say is, whilst the resourcing level at the county level has reduced a bit, there is closer working, at last, between the county, the borough and hopefully the local resilience plans."

Cllr Neil Gwynne noted the borough council's plan had coped well with this summer's rainfall, although Mayor Parker said he would still like experts to give a presentation.

The Mayor also suggested he would be looking to bring back a proposal to the council to continue work on the Romsey Community Emergency Plan, which was disrupted due to COVID.
