Southampton City Council is joining a national campaign to combat antisocial behaviour.

Antisocial Behaviour Awareness Week runs from Monday, November 18 to Sunday, November 24, aiming to spotlight the support available for tackling such behaviour.

The campaign, organised by Resolve, the UK’s leading antisocial behaviour and community safety organisation, carries the theme #MakingCommunitiesSafer.

The council plans to use its media platforms to inform the public on how to report antisocial behaviour, the support they can receive, and details on how the council collaborates with partners and communities to resolve local issues.

The council is urging residents to report any antisocial behaviour they witness, which includes aggressive, noisy, or abusive conduct, as well as neighbourhood disturbances related to drugs or animals.

Reports can be made to local housing offices, via the council website, or to Hampshire Constabulary.

The council is also committing to making communities safer by installing additional CCTV cameras throughout the city.

The Safe City Partnership in Southampton has used funds from the Police and Crime Commissioner to finance facial recognition technology, increased security, and joint police and ambulance patrols.

Southampton Chief Inspector Mark Lumley said: "Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary knows that antisocial behaviour, which can include a wide range of acts, is a concern for our communities. We don’t underestimate the impact that antisocial behaviour can have, particularly when victims are experiencing it repeatedly. We are committed to tackling ASB-related problems by working with our partners.

"Some people don’t report antisocial behaviour when they see it or experience it. Please know that every report you make helps us to take action. We can tackle these problems when people report what is happening within their community, so please tell us."

Youth Options has also been involved, providing diversionary activities for young people.

The public are reminded that they can report any witnessed incidents of antisocial behaviour.

Council tenants or leaseholders are advised to contact their Housing Office or use the online reporting form.

Non-emergency crimes can be reported to the police non-emergency number, 101, or online.

For any emergency situations, the police should be contacted using 999.
