A Southampton MP is fighting against the closure of one of the few remaining bank branches on a city high street.

Southampton Test MP Satvir Kaur is campaigning to keep the Lloyds branch on Shirley High Street open, after the bank announced they would be closing on May 7, 2025.

She has held a meeting with bosses of the chain and says she is due to hold another meeting to raise concerns soon.

Only Nationwide would remain in Shirley if the plans go ahead and the nearest Lloyds would be over three miles away in the city centre.

"It is particularly vital to people with specific disabilities, those who are digitally excluded, and older customers.

“It is putting already vulnerable people at risk of financial exclusion, and enough is enough.

"Bank branches remain of critical importance to the public, particularly the most vulnerable in our society who so often find themselves side-lined."
