Tesco customers are being urged to donate long-life items to help those facing hunger in Southampton.

The initiative is part of the 12th annual Tesco Winter Food Collection, with items going to the Trussell Trust and FareShare.

Running in Express stores from November 25 - 30, and in large stores from November 28 - 30, the collection aims to meet the rising demand for food support.

Ken Murphy, Tesco Group CEO, said: “Our partners tell us they’ve seen even more families needing their help and they expect demand to increase this winter, so we’re encouraging Southampton customers to donate whatever they can to our Winter Food Collection."

Both charities report increased need, with FareShare noting an 86 per cent rise in people accessing services.

Pre-packed donation bags, costing £2 to £3, will be available in more stores this year.
