National Highways has set a date for when all 50mph limits on the M27 will be lifted.

Drivers on the M27 will be eager to know when the motorway will be free of road works and variable speed limits.

The Echo sat down with National Highways’ M27 resurfacing programme delivery manager, Richard Scrase who explained that even when the works are complete, the speed limit will remain in place.

The scheme is due to finish the construction element by December 2025, then undergo a trial phase where all of the overhead signs and signals will be tested.

Richard said: “This testing phase will still require the road to be under a lane restriction – at 50 mph.

“Drivers should be aware the speed restriction will remain for this period after the construction has finished.

“That 50mph speed restriction is due to be in place until June 2026 – when the works will be complete.”
