A major motorway service operator has added six more 360kW electric vehicle chargers to a site on the M27.
Roadchef has installed the chargers at the Rownhams site near Southampton, on the westbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4.
The high-powered GRIDSERVE chargers, available now, can charge vehicles in minutes and accept contactless payments.
They also provide real-time status updates to several popular EV charging maps.
The chargers, equipped with Combined Charging System connectors for maximum compatibility, aim to offer drivers more choice and reduce queue numbers.
This move comes as electric vehicles continue to increase their market share in the UK, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
Paul Comer, director of EV implementation at Roadchef, said: "The opening of our new electric chargers at Rownhams Services provides much-needed options for electric vehicle drivers in Southampton to rest, refuel and recharge.
"With the support of GRIDSERVE, we can grow Britain’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure throughout the UK and continue to make the necessary steps to achieve a cleaner future for all."
Ongoing investment in charging infrastructure is said to be a key step in preparing Britain's roads for the future.
Besides the charging facilities, Rownhams Services provides various amenities for electric vehicle drivers, including free Wi-Fi and access to popular shopping and dining options.
