A Southampton bookshop has been named one of the top 20 independent boutiques in the UK.
October Books was recognised by Creative Boom, an online platform celebrating creativity and culture, for its mix of socially conscious books, gifts, and community-focused ethos.
Founded in 1977, October Books has become a hub for local residents and visitors, known for its vibrant events and ethical outlook.
It has also been a trailblazer in community activism, famously moving into its present space—a former bank—with the help of a human chain in 2018.
The co-operative continues to host diverse events from live music and poetry to book clubs and cooking workshops.
Long-standing team member Clare said: "We’re thrilled to be included in Creative Boom’s list. It’s an honour to be recognised among so many inspiring independents, and it’s a testament to the incredible support of our community."
With Small Business Saturday on November 30, the October Books team hopes local shoppers will remember all they have to offer.
The bookshop's recognition comes as a boost to its efforts to sustain its independent status amid the holiday shopping rush.
