Firefighters were called in to action after huge plumes of smoke billow from a burning car in a Southampton street over the weekend. 

Eyewitnesses said that a car caught fire after travelling up a hill on Dale Road, Southampton, on Saturday night, causing plumes of smoke to billow across the area. 

It is understood that the passengers inside the burning car were quickly able to escape and no injuries were reported to the fire service.  

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "Firefighters from Redbridge were called to a vehicle fire in Dale Road, Southampton, on 30 November at around 6.45pm.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to put out the fire.

"The stop message was received at 7.10pm."
