A Southampton Solent University graduate has been named Student of the Year at the prestigious Rise Awards.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, November 19, acknowledged the achievements of Amy Woods, a BSc (Hons) Live Event Technology 2024 graduate.
This recognition comes just two years after another Solent student bagged the same honour, showcasing the high calibre of education provided by the institution.
The Rise Awards commend the abilities of women in the broadcast industry, promoting gender diversity within the media sector while aiding the advancement of the next generation.
Amy, the first in her family to pursue higher education, has already begun establishing her career in the industry as a Junior Broadcast Engineer with Limitless Broadcast, less than six months post-graduation.
During her tenure at Solent, Amy was actively involved with SonarEvents, a recognised live events society that links students with relevant work experience opportunities.
Amy collected her award at an illustrious event held at the renowned Troxy music hall in London.
Ms Woods said: "Solent has massively helped me throughout my career, both during and after university. The opportunities for networking as well as events and talks helped me succeed and provided a breakthrough into the industry.
"Everything I learned at Solent was relevant towards where I am now, helping me get my foot in the door and take that knowledge and progress further. My lecturers provided so much useful information when venturing out into the industry, as well as preparing me for graduation and post-university opportunities."
Sophie Humphrey, a Solent alumnus and the 2023 award recipient, nominated Amy for the honour, which was presented by former student Polly Hickling.
Deputy Head of Film and Media, Lee Davison, said: "Amy was a motivated student, with the right attitude and talent to overcome challenges and achieve a well-deserved first-class degree. Amy is an example of how hard work and dedication to your craft brings success when you leverage the fantastic opportunities at Southampton Solent University.”
