The Beatles were crooning their way into our hearts, flower power was blooming everywhere you looked, and that groovy dude Dr Timothy Leary was telling everyone to "Tune in, Turn on, and Drop out!" Though I suspect most folks in the 1960s were more concerned with tuning in their tellies and dropping into the pub for a pint.
It was a time of change, a time of revolution, but you wouldn't necessarily know it looking at these fabulous independent shops – the butcher, the baker, and maybe even a candlestick maker!
And check out the cars! Forget your Teslas and Priuses, we're talking classic Ford Corsairs, Austin Cambridges, and Triumph Heralds.
You could practically smell the petrol fumes and hear the engines sputtering to life. And let's be honest, parking was probably much easier.
One thing that'll make your jaw drop is the lack of traffic.
The High Street looks positively peaceful compared to the jam-packed roads of today.
