A man raped a woman after leading her to a Southampton park and pulling her into bushes, a jury has been told.

Southampton Crown Court heard how Ozbeg Teymuroglu, 23, convinced the woman to go with him to East Park in the early hours of the morning in June last year.

Prosecutor Christopher Wing said Teymuroglu had told the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, that someone she was looking for was in the park.

Teymuroglu held her hand and walked towards the park at around 4.30am, Mr Wing told the court.

Speaking in a video interview played to jurors, the woman said she had told him that the person she was looking for would not walk through the park at that time.

"I said I was going to head back and he pulled me into the trees," she said.

She added: “He started to kiss me and I told him to get off, and that’s when he pulled my jeans down.

“He wouldn’t stop. I felt really stupid for trusting someone who said (the person) had left the club.”

She fled and police were called, Mr Wing said.

Opening the prosecution case on Monday, Mr Wing said Teymuroglu "pulled her into the bushes in East Park and tried to kiss her, and she told him to get off".

“The defendant then grabbed her from behind and pulled her jeans and underwear down.

“He then raped her from behind while holding tightly to her waist.”

Mr Wing said a forensic examination of the woman showed abrasions to her lower body.

Teymuroglu, of no fixed address, denies a charge of rape and told police the sex was consensual.

Mr Wing said: “In a prepared statement, the defendant told police he denied raping the victim.

“He said there was an expectation of sex and that all sexual activity between them was consensual.”

The trial continues.
