Councillors have thrown out plans for a 69-bedroom care home in Bursledon.
More than 80 residents objected to Colton Care Limited's bid for a 69-bedroom care home on Providence Hill, Bursledon.
Colton Care said it is would be meeting the needs an increasingly ageing population.
But councillors have rejected the plans for a number of reasons, many of which were previously highlighted by residents.
In its refusal, the planning committee said that the development was ‘overbearing and intrusive’ on the homes nearby due to its ‘excessive height and bulk’.
The committee's decision added: “The proposed development would have insufficient on-site parking and would result in the loss of existing parking for adjacent residents.”
This was also a point raised by residents who feared they would lose privacy with windows overlooking their rear gardens.

Resident Tracy McEwen said: “The care home would be four storeys high and the majority of the bedroom windows and doors would be facing my house.
“With roof terraces allowing for residents and staff to congregate, they will be able to see into our street and homes - we will have no right to privacy.”
With a potential 69 more elderly residents in the area, the council has also said that pressure would be put on GPs at the Bursledon Surgery.
The council added: “Insufficient information has been provided to demonstrate that a care home of that scale would not place undue pressure on healthcare services in the local area.
It also said that, if the care home was to be approved, it would cause ‘increased risk to highway safety’ due to cars turning in and out of the busy Providence Hill.
This was also put forward by residents, with Bursledon woman Vanessa Sayani, saying: “Based on the current population of the surrounding area of this road, the traffic congestion is already an issue.
“To add the care home workforce and its visitors would only further exacerbate the current issue.”
