IF anyone doubted that the Chandler’s Ford D team containing four women would struggle in the Winchester Premier league next season, then doubt no more.
Last Friday at the Winchester City and District Snooker League presentation evening at Churchills’ in Eastleigh, the girls proved they can celebrate with the best of them.
Even ‘The Mighty Finn’, who has been known to buck the trend and celebrate a victory the night before an event, was left in awe as the girls embarked on a 10-hour celebration after winning promotion from Division 1.
The notice sent out by the league committee said ‘7.45 until late’ but some took this as an order rather than an invitation. Accompanied by the four male squad members, they started the marathon in a watering hole in Eastleigh, via Churchills’ to collect their trophies, and onto various pubs, clubs, curry houses and casinos.
The captain of the junior team that finished runners-up in the Premier League tried to keep pace but was sadly taken ill in the night.
A well-known snooker club-owner arrived home at 4am but was back to open up for the juniors at 8.30 the next morning.
The club’s ladies champion managed to last the night without being carried home. A new record.
But an unnamed former World Ladies Junior Champion took top honours after arriving home at 5am. She admitted: “I didn’t know it got light that early.”
