A TV tough guy is offering some extra muscle to a road safety event at a New Forest college today.

Atlas from the Sky One show Gladiators is set to appear at Brockenhurst College from 9.55am to help promote a “Drive Safe Day”.

The annual show aims to improve student awareness of the importance of staying safe on the roads.

The emergency services will be out in force during the day staging hazard perception tests, eye tests and first aid demonstrations.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue is performing a reconstruction of a rescue from a mock traffic accident.

Police are using the day to launch their new hard hitting DVD Damage – the film tells the story of a moped rider who was seriously injured after a crash on a Hampshire road.

Roads policing officer Mick Gear said: “The second part of the DVD looks at how motoring laws affect moped riders and also risk management and safety messages, such as wearing high-visibility clothing and the dangers of modifying their vehicles to increase their power and performance.”
