AS the QE2 continues its final cruise questions are today being asked about the future of her iconic funnel.
When the luxury liner retires to her new home in Dubai to become a floating hotel the red funnel is to be chopped off and replaced with a glass fronted penthouse.
The plan, revealed by the Daily Echo earlier this year, has outraged lovers of the ship, thousands of who gathered last night to say their final goodbyes as she left the city for the final time.
Today the Daily Echo asks whether the funnel, a historic symbol of the ship, should be returned to Southampton and put on display as a permanent reminder of the ship which made the city her home for 40 years.
